Walk to the pub (about 20 paces, but not noisy !).  A selection of beers and spirits – all the usual from a country pub.

Jugs Restaurant, Llansantffraid – 01691 828324

Award wining cuisine.  A fantastic range of dishes available including Steaks, Seafood and many vegetarian options. Superb selection of fine wines, Champagne, Cognacs, ports and malt whiskies.  Fine dining, warm company and intimate atmosphere.

 

 

The Green Inn, Llangedwyn – 01691 828234

A charming 17th century Inn.  Traditional bar / lounge area and separate dining room.  Good menu of usual favourites, plus a specials board.

 

 

The Palace, Llansantffraid – 01691 828152

The Palace Indian restaurant and takeaway offers an excellent choice of fine Indian cuisine served in a warm and friendly ambience.  Alternatively order a takeaway and snuggle up in front of the fire in The Smithy.

 

 

Local Shopping

 

Llansantffraid

There is a Spar and a Costcutters that sells a range of fresh produce, papers, wines and beers etc.  There is also a garage at Costcutters, should you require petrol for your car.  There is a great little Fish and Chip shop too.  There are a couple of pubs here that both serve food.

 

Llanrhaeadr YM

Another Spar shop, Newsagent, Post Office and an excellent butcher.  Also there are 3 pubs here: The Plough Inn, The Hand and The Wynnstay Arms.

 

Llanymynech

Golden Valley – 01691 830426 is a great Chinese takeaway that also has English dishes.

 

Llanfyllin

Yet another Spar shop.  There are a couple of butchers, a bakery, hardware store, newsagent, vets, post office, gift shops, a launderette and several pubs.

 

Up to an hour away

Llanrhaedr & the fabulous Waterfall www.pistyllrhaeadr.co.uk. This is the highest in England & Wales and is spectacular.

Carry on towards Lake Vyrnwy www.vyrnwy.co.uk, the man made Dam was completed in 1888. There you can bird watch, walk or cycle. There is a very informative RSPB shop there, along with a lovely café selling local items.

              

Further a field

Make a day of it and go to Snowdonia National Park www.snowdon.com, Portmeirion www.portmeirion-village.com, Blaenau Ffestiniog and see the slate mines www.llechwedd-slate-caverns.co.uk.

Hit the coast, Rhyl, Colwyn Bay & Llandudno on the North Coast. Take a drive across the Menai Bridge for Anglesey and Holyhead or down into the Heart of Wales you’ll find Welshpool, Rhayader, Llandrindod Wells.

For those shopoholics amongst you Chester (30 mins), Shrewsbury (20 mins) and Manchester (1 hour) are easily accessible.

Easy access to Birmingham, Manchester & Liverpool airports.

We have lots of further information at The Smithy, along with O/S maps to give you more ideas on things to see and do.

You can also have the use of up to four mountain bikes during your stay. We have racks to take them out for the day on your car, but you will have to provide safety helmets and any other equipment that you require.
